Small Boat Program

Our small boat program offers children (10 - 17 year age group) the opportunity to learn how to sail small boats in accordance with American Sailing Association (A.S.A) standards, using safe boating techniques as learning platform. In addition, to instill responsibilty, acccountability, commitment and teamwork. These values are integral to safe sailing and are traits that can be applied to everyday life.

The boats used in the training facility are smaller and more responsive than their keelboat cousins. These smaller boats (10' long by 4' wide) are designed to help the student understand the effects of wind, sail trim, crewing and steering. SeaHawk Sailing Schol is affiliated with the American Sailing Association. The A.S.A is a group dedicated to the boating saftey through education in all aspects of the sport of sailing. In addition, the student may aim for the Presidential Sports Award for sailing. As part of the Presidents Council on Physical Fitness and Sports this award stands for the commitment to fitness through active and regular participation in sports activities.

SeaHawk is staffed by certified A.S.A instructors that have met the qualifications demanded by the A.S.A.. All instructors have State Police screening and are C.P.R. and First Aid qualified. Overall safety officer oversees entire operation providing guidance and care. Evac plan in place with prior notification givent to state, county and local authorities.

SeaHawk Sailing School uses Walker Bay 10's in their small boat program. These boats are very stout and able to withstand the stresses encountered when new students are trying to learn. Walker Bay 10's are surprisingly agile and are a fine sailing vessel for beginners and experienced sailors.
